5 Places You Must See While in Seattle

Seattle is a terrific place to enjoy a variety of activities and events. Listed below are favourite, must-see places for anyone who has an opportunity to visit the Emerald City.

Pike Place Market

Pike Place Market is a favorite shopping extravaganza for people who like to wander amongst small, independent shops with a classic rustic charm. The fish market is one of the most favorite places to watch people sell and buy fish. Fresh fish are literally tossed from person-to-person before they eventually reach the customer, carefully wrapped in the local newspaper.

Downtown Seattle

Spend some time walking around downtown Seattle. Enjoy a stroll through the local galleries, or pause to view the historic architecture that is sprinkled throughout the area. When your legs get tired, there are plenty of free or low cost buses or the ever-popular monorail for quick transport around the city. While you are exploring downtown Seattle, you must find some time to visit the Space Needle, Pioneer Square and the Pacific Science Center. Don’t leave out the Seattle waterfront. Wander along the piers to the Seattle Aquarium to get a real flavor of old Seattle. The waterfront offers a chance to visit outlying areas by foot or car on the Washington State Ferries to either Winslow or Bremerton.

Woodland Park Zoo

Woodland Park Zoo is located just a short distance from downtown Seattle. It is easy to access by bus from downtown Seattle. The zoo has been a popular attraction for both local families and visitors. Their displays put you into the ecosystem including both flora and fauna from the Pacific Northwest to the Amazon Rain Forest.

University of Washington and the U District

University of Washington is a delightful place to experience the contrast of cutting-edge technology and classic architectural design. The nearby U District offers an excellent international opportunity for shopping and dining. This is a delightful place to enjoy classic oriental cuisine and culture. While you are in Husky territory, you won’t want to miss some outstanding college football action. For that matter, if your timing is right, catch a live Mariners or Seahawks game.

Outlying Areas

No visit to Seattle is complete without hopping in a Seattle Cab and spending a little bit of time in the outlying areas such as Mount Rainier National Park or a trip up to the San Juan Islands. If you arrive in the spring, head out to the tulip farms. A mid-summer visit is perfect timing for the Lavender Festival at Sequim.
